Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled (CORD)

CORD Policy on Reimbursement for ADAPT Trips

Effective August 30, 2002

CORD encourages and promotes the participation of CORD staff and members in the disability rights movement. This participation can take place at advocacy events locally, state- and nationwide. As the ADAPT Chapter in Massachusetts, CORD supports involvement with this national group by providing information on current and past ADAPT issues, encourages involvement with the issues ADAPT brings to the forefront of the disability rights movement and will contribute monies to people interested in attending ADAPT events that take place across the United States. CORD also encourages members to stay active in the disability rights movement upon their return to Massachusetts and/or the Cape and Islands area.

Any CORD staff person or CORD member is subject to the following guidelines in order to receive CORD contributions to their attendance at ADAPT events:

  1. A non-staff person wishing to receive CORD support at ADAPT events must be a dues-paying member for at least six (6) months prior to the selected event;
  2. CORD will contribute 75% toward the cost for airfare and hotel for the duration of the specific ADAPT event. The staff or CORD member will contribute 25% toward the same costs;
  3. CORD staff attending ADAPT events will be paid for no more than the regular work week of 37.50 hours at the rate specific to that staff person. CORD staff will not exceed a regular work week while on an ADAPT event;
  4. The staff or member's contribution must be paid in advance before the airfare and hotel booking occur. CORD staff have the option of payroll deduction at no less than $20 a week;
  5. In cases where other agencies contribute toward a CORD member's participation at an ADAPT event, CORD will accept, in advance of the selected ADAPT trip and in lieu of advance payment, written verification from the contributing agency specifying who they are supporting and that they agree to the terms CORD sets before contributions can be made;
  6. CORD staff and members must travel as a group to the event and must participate as a group while at the event to receive CORD support;
  7. CORD will help facilitate and coordinate travel plans for staff and members traveling with the group including but not limited to: airfare, hotel rooms, PCA coordination, and ground transportation coordination once at the ADAPT event;
  8. CORD is not responsible for providing personal care attendants for participating staff and members but may help by providing referrals or coordinating with the ADAPT group in making the staff or member's need for a PCA while on the ADAPT trip known;
  9. All food and other personal expenses are the responsibility of the staff person or CORD member;
  10. Incidental travel or other expenses should be submitted to the organization on a CORD travel sheet, which is subject to approval by the director upon return from the ADAPT event;
  11. CORD will not contribute toward single room occupancy hotel rooms unless the CORD staff person or member can demonstrate a need specific to their disability and travle needs. This exception is subject to approval by the director and should be discussed in advance of the ADAPT event the person is planning to attend;
  12. CORD is not responsible for any changes in ADAPT plans or hotel arrangements. Because of the number of people with disabilities attending ADAPT events and given the fact that ADAPT makes direct arrangements with hotels on the number of rooms needed, CORD cannot guarantee that problems won't arise due to the nature and size of the events;
  13. CORD will not reimburse any bail or other legal expenses incurred by CORD staff or members while on ADAPT events.
